Integration of valuable arable wild herbs in intensive cash crop cultivation
The project for the integration of valuable arable wild herbs in intensive cash crop cultivation is funded by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (Bundesamt für Naturschutz). The goal is to investigate how management measures should be adapted to support the establishment of valuable arable wild herbs and how this affects the profitability of farming operations in a project that is both practice-oriented and scientifically sound.
Contents and goals
The goal of the project is to adapt the management measures in a practice-oriented and at the same time scientifically sound project in order to support the establishment of valuable arable wild herbs and to answer the following questions:
Which farming methods (cash crop and stubble cultivation) promote the successful establishment of valuable wild herbs in cash crop-orientated crop rotations?
Which previous and subsequent crop contributes to the success of establishment in a region characterised by market crops?
What effects does delayed stubble cultivation have on crop protection aspects in cash crop cultivation?
What effects does delayed stubble cultivation have on soil moisture in arable drylands?
How do the measures affect the profitability of farming operations?
Task of the DLG
The DLG is responsible for coordinating the design, establishment and management of the large plot trial. The main coordinator is also responsible for recording, analysing and evaluating the crop production and economic data.
In addition, the DLG supports the Stiftung Kulturlandschaft Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Landscape Foundation) in recording, analysing and evaluating the establishment success of arable wild herbs.
In addition, the DLG is responsible for knowledge transfer and public relations.
